Fervent February

It's already March 4th and we had so much to do in February. There was a flurry of projects going on. We handmade all of our Valentines decorations and used things we had around the house.  We made special Valentines for Grandparents and little friends. On Valentines Day we exchanged chocolate and had a special dinner with the 3 of us. We had a candlelit of dry aged steak, orzo and salad. We made cookies for dessert.

We are looking forward to Spring.  Even though we have had a mild winter, we are looking forward to warmer weather and longer days so we can be outside and get some fresh air.  The daffodils are already blooming and we take a picture in MiMi's garden every year.  This year will be our baby cousin's first Easter.

There so many projects I have been looking forward to getting done.  I have some new projects on the list.  We bought some shutters on Craigslist last spring for $5 per shutter.  They need to be put up.  We plan to make pallet furniture for our little deck.

I bought a sewing machine for Christmas and am looking forward to making my baby's Easter dress.  My Maw Maw made ours every year.  I also scored some good finds at my favorite place to shop - the thrift store.  I got all these goodies below for $41.  Some the yellow t-shirt, scarf and flowered skirt were all brand new with tags!  The shirts are too big, but I plan on taking them up to get some good practice on the new machine.

I also have this project below to finish - I got these for .98 CENTS while out thrifting. Whoever had these shoes loved them.  AND so do I - they just need a little TLC and some paint.

Making a fun gallery wall for my sweetheart's room.  Make her a chalkboard from the mirror above.

Just a little primer and some chalkboard paint. There's a lot more going on around here so I better be off!

Tiny Tablecloth

I had an idea when I noticed my baby was using a towel as a table cloth for her table.

I will never be the master seamstress my Grandmother was, but I decided to sew a tablecloth for her.  It is reversible.  I found some fabric in the remnant section of Hancock Fabrics.  I haven't sewn in years, but I bought a sewing machine with my Christmas money this year because I wanted to start again.  After breaking the needle and tearing out the stitches a few times, I think it is a tablecloth fit for a tea party.  I want to add some trim, but now I have to figure out how to get it back.

Conversations with Caroline

Christmas Eve:

Aunt Carol: What is Santa bringing you?
Caroline: A purple jeep.
Aunt Carol: What are you going to do if he doesn't?
Caroline: He will.

Christmas Morning:

Caroline to Aunt Carol: See, I told you he would bring it!

A Gift to Remember

Of course, our long Thanksgiving weekend went by way too fast. I try to enjoy every second, but it seems time goes faster each year.  I am very blessed and very thankful.

This year, we spent time with cousins we haven't seen since my Grandmother's death in 2004. All of Maw Maw's (our name for our Grandmother) girls (except her great great grand daughter, Summer) were together for the first time since then. We grew up together and come from a close knit family, but my cousin moved out of state and we don't see each other much.

My aunt lives across the street from us and my parents live next door to us. Thanksgiving was always at Maw Maw and Grandaddy's house (the house I live in now). We spent the day watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, eating, napping and playing games. My aunt has my grandmother's table (which I couldn't even begin to count how many meals I have eaten at this table) so we still have her with us. I definitely could use one of her hot sweet potato biscuits fresh out of the oven with butter on it.

My husband, daughter, our fur babies and I live in my Grandparents home. I also inherited another special part of my Grandmother.  She was a master seamstress and I loved to play with all her buttons as a child.  I would look through them and admire them.  I would let them run through my fingers.  I still love to look at them and have them on display in our home.  She touched them and made her history with them, my mom's, my sister's, my aunt's, my cousin's , my history and my daughter's too.  I wanted to share them with the other women in my family so they could have her near.  It took me a few years, but I finally decided to pick some favorites and make specimen art for my mother, my sister and my aunt.  I wrote a special message on the back of the frame.  I found the perfect one at Walmart for $5!

Big Love

In good times and bad times, always there with love
Daddy's Boy
We lost our beloved Walter one week ago today.  Our hearts are broken without him with us.  He has no pain anymore and we are able to let him go knowing that.  We know he can see that ball again.  We know he can run on that beach again.  We know he can jump those waves again.

Such a Daddy's boy.  We all love him so very much.  120 pounds is a lot of puppy, but he is all love.  Even though his sight failed him, his body failed him, and his time with us slipped away, his love never once failed us.

It's hard to believe our time with him is over.  Such a good boy, he loved being with his family and that is right where he was when we lost him.  We can still feel him like he is there by us.  We feel like he is still laying at the foot of the bed when you wake up in the morning.  We wait to hear him bark when we come home and to be the first one to welcome us.  He always wanted to be near us and we loved having him as part of our family.

I found a quote that couldn't be more true of our sweet boy:  A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.

Playmate

A little girl longs to play with her Bubby.  Her heart is broken because she can't understand why he is not with us anymore.  We told her he was sick and God had to take him to Heaven to take care of him there.  Thank you for being so gentle with her, buddy.

Words fail me now to describe our life with him.  Had to stop myself from buying his food and frosty paws this week in the grocery store.  It's definitely going to be a long time adjusting to life without him.  We love you sweet man.

We're saving a pizza crust and a frosty paw for you buddy...
